Rare ex-voto bearer

Polychrome earthenware, circa 1930. The face and hands are treated like terracotta. Lack of cover on the back of the restored boat sail.

This very rare work was inspired by a 1928 sketch: "Jeune mousse s'apprêtant à partir à la pêche" ("Young sailor preparing to go fishing"). It depicts a young sailor rescued from a shipwreck, who thanks the Virgin Mary by offering her an ex-voto boat.
