Auguste Goy ( - )

After studying architecture, Auguste Denis Goy, born in Melun in 1812, entered Ingres' studio in the spring of 1834. He then became a portrait painter in Paris before settling in Quimper in 1847. He drew and painted with inspiration from the landscapes of the region, from Pont Aven to the Bigouden country. In search of authenticity, he painted portraits of peasants in traditional costume and captured 19th century Brittany in his work.
