Raphaël Ernest Laynaud was a French painter born in Paris on January 1, 1841. Born into a family of artists, he was the son of François Louis Laynaud, a history and genre painter. His brother, Louis Paul Eugène Laynaud, was also an artist.
Ernest Laynaud studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was admitted on November 28, 1862. He studied in the studios of Victor Baltard, Hippolyte Lebas and Léon Ginain. As a painter, Laynaud specialized in landscapes and genre scenes. He exhibited at the Salon des artistes français in Paris in 1878, 1879 and 1883, receiving a 3rd class medal.
