Pierre Outin ( - )
Pierre Outin was a French painter born in Moulins and died in Paris. Trained first by Charles Lecointe and later by Alexandre Cabanel, he made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1868. A specialist in genre scenes and historical subjects, he was noted for his elegant and refined style, often inspired by the 18th century. A long stay in Algeria in 1874 enriched his palette and also led him towards Orientalist compositions. Awarded several times at the Salon, notably for *L’Émigré* (1883) and *Épisode de la déroute de Quiberon* (1889), Outin enjoyed considerable renown during his lifetime. His work, appreciated for the finesse of its drawing and the delicacy of its colour, is now held in several public and private collections.
