Henry d'Estienne

French painter, born in Conques-sur-Obriel (Aude). Henry d'Estienne was trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he was a pupil of Jean-Léon Gérôme. He is a portrait painter who is often associated with the Orientalist movement.

Appointed Knight of the Legion of Honour and Officer of the Order of the Dragon of Annam, his painting deals with a wide variety of themes: Henri d'Estienne is both a painter of Algeria and Brittany. In addition to portraits, he painted Eastern and Western landscapes and scenes of daily life from Parisian high society to the Breton countryside.

He exhibited his works at the Salon des Artistes français from 1893 to 1947, and was classified out of competition from 1904 onwards.
