Raymond Aynaud dit Bils ( - )

Bils peignant rue Norvin à Montmartre

Raymond Aynaud, known as Bils (see Claude Bils), was a French painter and press illustrator. Trained at the École nationale des Arts décoratifs in Paris, he made a name for himself through his caricatures published in the major illustrated newspapers of his time. Alongside this work, he pursued a career as a landscape painter. From the 1950s onwards, he spent time regularly in Brittany, particularly in Douarnenez and Tréboul, where he painted harbours and seascapes in a luminous and sensitive palette. His work is now held in several French public collections: the Musée de la Ville de Paris, the Musée de Montmartre, the Musée Départemental Breton in Quimper, the Musée de la Guerre in Vincennes...
