Georges Maroniez ( - )

As a young teenager, he began to paint in the Douai area. At first he painted the countryside and rural life in a classical, even academic style. He then moved on to seascapes and seaside scenes with the Wissant school. He excelled in this genre to the point of being presented as a painter of the sea. These paintings represent the life of coastal people in coastal landscapes and port scenes. He endeavoured to capture the daily life of humble fishermen and their families.

His work is abundant and scattered in France, Europe and North America. It is estimated that he painted more than 800 pictures, to which can be added thousands of studies.

Many of his works are in museums, mainly in the north of France, notably in Cambrai and Douai.
