Alcide Le Beau (1873 - 1943)

Alcide Le Beau was born in Lorient. He is a rare artist of the Pont-Aven School, whose touch and vibrant forms translate a fiery lyricism that belongs only to him. His intimacy with nature is expressed sometimes in a thick, crumpled material with bright colours, sometimes in a smooth material with faded colours and synthesised forms. There are many reminders of Brittany in his landscapes because everything evokes the power of the sea; even the mountains or the moving clouds are evocative of the bubbling of water.
