Pierre-Eugène Grandsire ( - )

Pierre-Eugène Grandsire was a French painter born in Orléans and died in Paris. He was a student of Jules Noël and Jules Dupré.

In 1852, he undertook a study trip to Venice. Other trips later led him to Austria, Flanders and Spain. His favourite subjects were romantic pictures, forest landscapes and views of harbour towns. In France, he painted views around Paris, the Vosges, Brittany and Normandy.

After 1850 Grandsire exhibited regularly in Parisian Salons, among others at the Salon des Artistes Français of 1850 and 1903 and received bronze medals for his work at the Universal Exhibitions of Paris in 1889 and 1900.  Many of his illustrations were published in magazines such as Le Monde illustré, Le Tour du Monde and L'illustration.
