Abel Villard et Louis-Marie Désiré-Lucas

Born in Ploaré near Douarnenez, Abel Villard spent his life in Quimper where he divided his time between his love of painting and business.

He founded the Confiturerie Villard in 1924, on rue de la Providence in Quimper, which he managed until 1950.

Like his father, Abel Villard taught drawing. A friend and pupil of Louis-Marie Désiré-Lucas, they worked on the motif and travelled around Douarnenez together. In Quimper, he founded the free municipal art classes and created the Union Artistique, then, in 1946, the town's School of Fine Arts. Abel Villard won a silver medal at the 1954 Salon des Artistes Français and a gold medal at the 1968 Salon.
