Emile Simon immortalizes here a beautiful light at the end of the day, probably humid, at the beginning of the summer.
On the back of the canvas frame is written "To Madame Hais with my best wishes 1953" and in another handwriting the title of the work with the precision "médaille d'or hors concours". That he was out of the competition is not surprising, for this artist likes to say that he has no need to live from his painting and always prefers to leave his place to an artist for whom it is vital to sell. Émile Simon sold little during his lifetime, because he was a teacher and his friend and patron was Madame Fié-Fieux, who allowed him to keep his paintings.
