Polychrome earthenware, circa 1890.
Decoration No. 1 in Alfred Beau's inventory. The Porquier Beau Manufactory (1872-1905) was born from the partnership of the widow Porquier and the painter Alfred Beau in 1872. Their collaboration resulted in the famous earthenware decorations of Breton scenes, studies as rigorous as they were picturesque.
Also attracted by Japonism, Alfred Beau produced several pieces that heralded Art Nouveau in Brittany.
The already high price of this production led to the closure of the factory in 1905.
