Passion bottle decorated with the return of Napoleon's ashes
In painted wood and Nevers spun glass. A sailor's votive bottle on the return of Napoleon's ashes. Around 1830.
The first known passion bottles date from the middle of the 18th century. They often represent episodes from the life of Christ, but also masses and weddings. We know the boats in bottle less the votive bottles, expression of the religious devotion of the boatmen. Here we are on the immortalization of a character of the history of France.
