Decorative box featuring an altar surmounted by two doves

Ivory box with straw marquetry, decorated with a miniature depicting an altar surmounted by two doves beneath a canopy, framed in gold and inscribed with the words ‘imitate them’; the interior is decorated with flowers surrounded by foliage scrolls. Conceals a miniature portrait of a man beneath the base of the box (difficult to open). Second half of the 18th century.
