Box decorated with a flaming heart falling into a well

A tortoiseshell box with a gold band, inscribed with the words ‘if you abandon me, I shall perish’ and decorated with a miniature depicting a flaming heart falling into a well. Circa 1800. The edge of the lid has been re-glued.
